Does Sex run your life?

Here's an assessment you can take to look at how your sex life affects you. You don’t need a pencil, you just need to be honest with yourself.

  1. Do you find yourself preoccupied with sexual thoughts?
  2. Do you frequent porn sites on the Internet?
  3. Do you watch provocative movies, television or videos for sexual gratification?
  4. Do you purchase 'men's magazines' for the sexual content?
  5. Do you scan the personals section of the newspaper and respond to the listings?
  6. Do you seek out provocative ads, articles or photos, catalogs, or magazines?
  7. Do you lock on when you see a sexually attractive person near you?
  8. Do you masturbate to the images of others?
  9. Have you found your spouse to be less sexually satisfying?
  10. Are you holding a grudge against your spouse which gives you a sense of entitlement?
  11. Do you have sexual behaviors you can not share with your wife?
  12. Do you have a secret place in your home to keep things hidden from your spouse?
  13. Does your spouse ever worry or complain about your sexual behavior?
  14. Do you look forward to going on a business trip for the opportunity for sexual activity?
  15. Has your sexual behavior ever created problems for you or your family?
  16. Has anyone been hurt emotionally because of your sexual behavior?
  17. Have you ever worried about people finding out about your sexual activities?
  18. Has sex been a way for you to escape your problems?
  19. Do you ever feel bad about your sexual behavior?
  20. Do you feel that some of your sexual behavior is not normal?
  21. When you have sex, do you feel depressed afterwards?
  22. Have you made promises to yourself to quit some aspect of your sexual behavior?
  23. Have you ever tried and failed to quit a type of sexual activity?
  24. Do you feel controlled by your sexual desires?
  25. Have you ever sought help for a sexual behavior you did not want to continue?
  26. Are any of your sexual activities illegal?
If you found yourself on this list a few times in the first 8 questions, you might say you’re just a ‘normal guy’. But if you’re trying to live a life by a standard that is honoring God, even those few things are likely convicting you that you need to redirect your attitudes and actions regarding sex. If you found yourself saying yes to things throughout the list, sex may by running (and ruining) your life. But know that you don’t have to be stuck there.
